Base 3 history and geography
: May 2024
Base 3 have been immersing themselves into the history of our wonderful village of Wrenbury. This week we used a range of photographs to help us to map out our village. We thought carefully about where buildings should be placed and discussed when these buildings would have been there, linking this to our history learning.
As well as this, in English we have started a very exciting newspaper project linked closely to our class story where the River Thames starts to act very strangely and water appears everywhere! Our newspaper headline is ' Wrenbury Storm Drains Turn into Fountains!' The children thoroughly enjoyed this, thinking about the who, what, when, where and why of the story. Next week we will turn into journalists and interview the people impacted by this disaster! In our reading lesson this week we focused on an extract from 'Swan Song' by Gill Lewis and, my goodness, the children enjoyed this! We broke down the text and looked closely at the hidden meaning behind the words, considering what the characters may be thinking and feeling whilst also looking deeper into why they may be acting in a certain way. The children loved it! It is a real pleasure to see the children enjoy reading this way.
In maths we have been deepening our knowledge of fractions, the children have been grappling with this learning a great deal which is great to see. We can problem solve with fractions, we can fins equivalent fractions and find fractions of amounts. Well done everyone, especially those who have taken their learning a step further by taking some questions home to work on just for fun! Amazing!
This is just a little snippet of what we have been up to this week- as always, another great week with my lovely Base 3!

We discovered that we could squeeze, blow, twist, spin and even throw objects to do this. We then realised that all of these verbs could be classified into a push or a pull. We then moved on to learn how items move on different...
